Homeowners and Dwelling policies DO NOT COVER FLOOD damage! Flood is defined as general and temporary conditions of partial or complete inundation of normally dry land areas. Definitions of flood include:
- Overflow of inland or tidal water
- Unusual accumulation and run off of surface waters
- Mud flows or mud slides in normally dry land areas
- Abnormal flood related erosion of shorelines
DO NOT WAIT! (until the next hurricane) Flood insurance policies become effective 30 days after receipt of the coverage of the application and the premium payment.
Real property east and/or south of the intracoastal waterway may be eligible for flood coverage under the “Beach Plan”, a program developed by the North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association.
